Biometric Data Policy

Last Updated: May 27, 2026

This Biometric Data Policy explains how Kinward, Inc. ("Porchside") collects, uses, stores, and destroys biometric information in connection with the optional selfie verification feature of the Service. It supplements our Privacy Policy. We provide it to comply with biometric privacy laws, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (CUBI), and Washington law.

1. What We Collect

When you choose to use selfie verification, the app captures a photograph of your face (a selfie). The selfie and your existing profile photo are processed using facial-recognition technology to generate a temporary comparison that confirms whether the two images are of the same person.

2. Why We Use It

We use biometric information for the single purpose of verifying your identity, which helps build trust and safety in the community. We do not use it for any other purpose.

3. Consent

We collect and process your biometric information only after you choose to use the feature and provide your consent. You are not required to use selfie verification, and you can use the Service without it.

4. Disclosure

We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from your biometric information. We do not disclose it to any third party except the service provider that performs the comparison (Amazon Web Services Rekognition), and except as required by law or valid legal process. We do not disclose it for advertising.

5. Retention and Destruction Schedule

Your selfie image is permanently destroyed immediately after the verification comparison is complete. We retain only a verification status and a numerical similarity score, which are not images and cannot reconstruct your face. These are destroyed when you reset verification, when you delete your account, when the purpose of collection has been satisfied, or within the period required by applicable law, whichever occurs first. We do not store facial-geometry templates or scans.

6. Data Security

We protect biometric information using the same or greater safeguards we use for other confidential information, including encryption in transit and access controls.

7. Your Choices

You may decline to use selfie verification, reset your verification, or delete your account at any time. For questions about this Policy or to make a request, contact support@porchside.co.
